In praise of Ohloh

I have some Google Alerts setup to notify me of certain tags that are found on a daily basis. One of them of course is Kontrollbase and the alert linked me over to http://ohloh.com and their pickup of the code commits from the Google subversion code repo. After looking at some stats I can say that I’m impressed with their automation of data gathering and code inspection. I like the reports and analytics. You can see for yourself here:

Kontrollbase code has moved to fedorahosted.org

This past week I moved my code repository from Google Code to FedoraHosted.org and I will say that I very much enjoy the features that Fedora-Hosted offers. Trac’s svn browser is far superior to whatever home-grown svn browser that google is using, the ticketing/bug section of Trac is also much easier to use and has more features. Even the wiki is more user friendly. Overall, Fedora-Hosted won me over in a big way.

In additon to the above items, you also are getting svn+ssh file transfers that utilize encryption and the ability to use git and several other repo management tools. I had some issues uploading my ssh key to the project admin page, and the guys that run the project are on IRC (#fedora-admin on irc.freenode.net)… within minutes they were helping me solve the issue and get my project up and running. Quality work, and you don’t get that kind of personal touch from google code.
